The Good Doctor: what to expect from season four

The fourth series of The Good Doctor begins tonight and promises to deliver shocking twists to finish the thrilling story

This series of The Good Doctor is fast-paced and rife with action and surprising twists. The Good Doctor follows Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) as he graduates from medical school and begins a new career as a young surgeon at San Jose St Bonaventure Hospital.

No one is quite prepared for the formidable challenges that lay ahead – especially Shaun’s mother, Ruth, who retired after losing all her assets in the stock market during the last recession, and his estranged father, Ray, a bipolar heavy drinker, who finds himself overwhelmed by life. And yet Shaun finds them all motivating and inspiring.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Shaun meets the mysterious Dr Shaun Murphy, a fellow medical student who, like Shaun, has been struggling to make sense of his strange, often confusing childhood experiences. Shawn Ryan, Aaron Harberts and Corinne Brinkerhoff are all executive producers of The Good Doctor, along with Jeff Okin. And Tony Phelan directs the episode penned by Alex Tanaka and Ryan.

WJ McLaughlin returns as Dr Jeffrey Tyrol. And Hill Harper, Christian Slater, Michelle Hurd, Sonya Walger, Barrett Foa, Zachary Deering, Nina Lisandrello, Nia Long, Jackson Park and Alimi Ballard also star.

The new season of The Good Doctor launches tonight and runs for ten weeks.
