Hawkeye gets Disney+ animated series starring Alfie Allen

The Marvel comics character Hawkeye is getting the Marvel Cinematic Universe treatment on Disney+.

A new animated series called “Hawkeye” debuts on Disney+ on June 26. The show stars “Game of Thrones” actor Alfie Allen as the Marvel Comics hero Clint Barton. In “Hawkeye,” we meet Barton living as a low-rent street hustler, kicking out whatever bad guys he can on his quest to rid the world of a dangerous terrorist.

“Hawkeye” is co-executive produced by “Rick and Morty” creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. It will be followed by other original, live-action series, including the Marvel-based ones planned by ABC, Marvel Television and Netflix.

Hawkeye appeared in the Avengers movies as a “Phase One” character, who took up a gun following the death of his wife.

The character will become the first hero whose appearance in the MCU will be an animated one. That’s because the character is a bit of a character in the comics, with a special origin story. Unlike most characters, who start out as superhuman but ultimately become unhinged and lose their minds, Hawkeye is just a mentally healthy regular dude.
