A man is in critical condition after being stabbed in a downtown Toronto location Wednesday morning, and police are now searching for a man and a woman suspected of the attack.

CBC News first reported that police received a call just before 9 a.m. local time saying a man had been stabbed in a downtown Toronto parking garage, which shares a parking lot with the parking structure where the mall is located.

Police say they received a call from the nearby Metro Toronto Convention Centre, reporting an unprovoked stabbing, according to CBC News.

The attacker was also wielding a knife and had fled the area, police said.

“It is believed that the subject who had a knife was an employee or visitor to the area,” Toronto Police spokesman Meaghan Gray told CBC News.

“The victim was approached by the suspect and became combative with the suspect.”

She said the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The motive behind the stabbing was not immediately clear.
